Musicians For Life

This is every choir member’s essential guiding goal, to be a musician for life. As musician for life, I want our choir members to love music more deeply, perform music more openly, create music that inspires, appreciate music they may not be familiar with, and be life-long music lovers and advocates. We set high standards for excellent music making, music skills, and character. We are expected to not only be our own best musician, but also our own best person.

Choir is a Family

Choir is a family is our approach to achieving this ideal. As a choir family member you join a safe environment that embraces the individual talents and qualities that each person brings to the table. It is a community that encourages empathy, trust, vulnerability, understanding, and the continual opportunity to push yourself out of your own box to grow. I want each member to feel comfortable enough with one another to be their best and still feel safe enough to to show their weaknesses. Just like your own family, I’ll hold you to valuing each person and celebrate them for their differences. As a part of our family, you are provided the space to become a musician for life.

Standards Realized

These standards are seen through moving performances; the development of quality vocal technique and advanced music literacy skills; growth of leadership skills; the maturity in how students give and receive feedback; the ability for students to analyze, reflect, and process; the willingness to ask hard questions; the willingness to take risks, share personal vulnerabilities and grow in confidence; how students respect one another's differences; how students think critically about the role of music; and perhaps most importantly to reflect and deepen their own self worth.
